This video is one of a series of short video produced by the Ministry of Research, Science & Technology (MoRST) to support implementation of the Health Research Council of New Zealand’s (HRC) new investment stream, ‘Research for New Zealand Health Delivery'.  This investment stream (now closed) calls for research that can improve health outcomes within 3-5 years (more details are available in the Investment Signal on the HRC's website).  The video interview series profiles health professionals talking about the role of research and technology in health care and the opportunities it provides for innovation and improvements in the health care system.

In this clip, Dr Catherine Mohr, an expatriate New Zealander and Director of Medical Research at Intuitive Surgical Inc, shares her view of 'the New Zealand brand of innovation' from her involvement in the development of surgical robots and the rewards she gets from working in this fast-moving area of medical technology.  Dr Mohr visited New Zealand in August 2009 as a guest speaker at the MoRGO entrepreneurs conference. Her visit was sponsored through MoRST’s Futurewatch programme, which raises awareness of emerging technologies and their implications for New Zealand. [3:44]
